With so much to choose from, it can be difficult to narrow down your choices for mountain bike accessories. With a little forethought and research, however, you can easily distinguish the essential from the luxury. Just know that it’s better to have a wide variety of bicycling gear to choose from before a ride, than too little. As that old adage goes, “it’s better to be safe than sorry”.
Obviously, your most important piece of equipment is always going to be your helmet. You simply cannot skimp on your helmet’s quality. Your health and your life are too big for a price to pay in order to save a few dollars. A helmet is especially important when riding on rough terrain because you never really know what you’re going to encounter. Another important thing to have is a proper light. Biking in dusk or dawn poses obvious problems, but dense forests and brush can also cause issues. A light is just as much about allowing you to see others as it is for allowing others to see you.
Gloves protect your hands from cuts and scratches. They also keep your fingers from going numb during cold conditions, which can impair your cycling skills. Be sure that they provide proper protection for the palms of your hands and pads of your fingers. They need to be more rugged than those made for road cycling because you’ll obviously be using them for different things. At times you’ll have to move obstacles and protect yourself when you fall. That’s a tough order to fill. You won’t have a problem, however, if you make sure to buy good quality bicycle accessories.
