Mountain Biking Basic Requirements
Mountain biking is both an exhilarating and exciting activity to get involved in. For most people, however, the idea of getting started in the sport seems overwhelming. Cycling on a mountain is obviously very different from regular biking. A few key pieces of equipment will not only help you get on the right road but will also prevent injury.
Your most important piece of equipment is undoubtedly the bike itself. The cost of a mountain bike can vary from a couple of hundred dollars to several thousand. While you don’t have to get an expensive bike to start, realize that you get what you pay for. Do your research and visit various stores to get a feeling for what’s available. Don’t be afraid to ask questions.
One can never underestimate the importance of a proper helmet. There is simply no excuse not to wear one. It’s very easy to fall when biking on difficult terrain, especially as a beginner. Cost should not be a factor when buying protection for your head. The most important thing to consider regarding your helmet is the fit. It should be snug, but not too tight. Also, it should provide significant padding between the tough outer shell and your head.
Lastly, cycling shorts cannot be underestimated. It will only take one ride for you to realize the affect this type of cycling will have on your rear-end. The extra padding provided by these shorts will be well worth the investment and will allow you to get more pleasure out of your new hobby. Look for shorts that fit comfortably, but aren’t too loose. They should allow for movement while cycling but still fit snuggly.
