AEGIS frames are made in Maine, USA. We, what is now AEGIS, made our 1st carbon frame in 1986 and have never made frames of any other material. Kestrel, now made in China, was an offshoot of the original "Maine" team that produced the TREK 2500, carbon/aluminum lugged and the 5000 full carbon bicycle frame. It is funny to me that all the traditional metal frame manufacturers, plus anyone else that can afford the marketing, can now make a carbon bike frame. Even AEGIS could buy Asian frames and paint and decal them ourselves. It would certainly save us a lot of money. It is also quite humorous when I see manufacturers "hiding" their 'proprietary' techniques, on their websites and literature, which are all based around a patent held by us.

Oh well, if you watch or listen to the news you know how much the Chinese manufacturing sector and government really cares about the products it exports. Recently, I've had to worry about my pet's food, my toothpaste, my fruits and vegetables and even have a Ziploc bag full of my 2 year-old's red Thomas the Train engines that contain lead. I certainly am not an isolationist, but I do try to make a little difference in my community. I try to buy locally both personally and professionally. For AEGIS, we buy products to manufacture our frames in Northern Maine, State of Maine, New England and United States. In that order.

I did find this article a while back, http://allanti.com/page.cfm?PageID=328. It does a pretty good job answering the question, where is my bike made. Except for an inaccuracy regarding Kestrel, it is pretty good. Kestrel was an offshoot of what is now AEGIS. We actually share a patent. The big difference was Kestrel thought that a 1 piece frame was better than a 3 piece. Well, history has proven AEGIS right.

Enjoy the article and thanks for considering AEGIS.
