   Great for my short son

   I just purchased this bike for my 9 year old for skatepark use. He is only 4’4” and I was a little concerned as the height recommendation was for 4’8” but it adjusted to his height well. The seat slams down extremely low and handle bars adjust forward to meet his height without issue. The crank is a little long for him but to be expected on a freestyle bmx. Riders just need to understand this is a bike you stand up while riding for the most part. Who does tricks sitting? I jumped on it and easily did some tricks around the driveway and I weight 175 lbs. nothing major but it felt solid and smooth.

   Great product

   Goose is a great product for kids who are growing more faster than the average. It felt just right ensuring my oldest son should have one of the most superior and competitive bikes out on the market today. It is very light weight this gives my son a edge with his new BMX Bike. I am hoping that this bike will encourage not just my son but all of my kids to want too try something different in the future with there bikes.Thanks Mongoose for a great product line and a great Bike.

   Great bike, cheap seat

   This is a very solid true BMX bike for beginner to intermediate riders from Mongoose, a major innovator and originator of BMX. The Legion L60 has many great features for the price! I would love to give it a full 5 star rating but the only drawback is the seat. I’ve seen better seats on toy bikes.

   Cable too short for front brake!!

   Was very excited to buy this bike for my 9 year old son. Unfortunately when we came to hook up the front brake, the cable was too short. We would like to keep the bike but feel that the seller should now pay for us to have someone re-do this. Very disappointing after spending $237 on this bike.And my son will have to wait even longer to use it.I’m adding to this review to say that since I wrote it I took the bike to my local bike store and the service guy got the brake cable in within 30seconds. So something my husband and I couldn’t do, he did!! I left it there for a safety check as I’m obviously not a bike expert and paid $50 for a full service. He would have done the first bit for free but I wanted to have it all checked 👍

    Not Rad, just Meh

    I bought the Legion L60 for under $200 and was just looking for something to casually use for playing around at outdoor bike parks and pump tracks, all the while hoping to get a taste of what it would feel like to be a Rad BMX biker like Cru Jones.The bike feels small. Kids bike small. I am not tall and the L60 says it should fit an adult up to 5’6″. I have 30in inseam and have to stand to pedal on this bike. Cru Jones can pedal his bike while seated, but I cannot. The tires are holding air, the single brake works fine and the crank feels pretty solid. Those are the good things I have to say about this bike and the rest is negative. I’m trying to figure out if it is worth holding on to this bike, even at the discounted price.The included seat post is very short, and can only be height adjusted via Allen wrench. The seat post clamp is welded on so you cannot simply remove it and replace with a quick release clamp. The seat slopes down backwards at an uncomfortable angle and cannot be adjusted. No pegs included. No gyro for the handlebar brake, so you cannot spin the handlebars to do tricks. The paint is discolored where the bike tubes are welded, as if not enough paint or primer was used on the bike frame. The front Mongoose decal is dangling and will not stick.Assembly was straightforward and not difficult. The headset has a little slop that I haven’t been able to tighten. None of the included reflectors will actually clamp to the tubes of the bike (wrong sizes??).

    Good bike for the money

    All you need are some tools, a brain, some patience and reasonable expectations for this to be put together and on the road.If you have half a brain and basic tools, you’re going to be able to put this together without even looking at the instructions. This will come in a box, front tire packaged off.It comes with no tools, everything zip tied so it could remain intact on the long trip from CHIIIINA to the US. Packaging is solid. There are several thick zip ties to cut to break everything loose.You’re going to need:Metric hex toolsA 15 and 18 mm socket for axels15mm wrench or socket to tighten handlebar alignmentScissors or utility knife for zip tiesPhillips screwdriver (for the reflectors only)You’ll need an extension bar to remove the nuts from the axels to install the pegs on front and back. Will take you about 60 seconds to do this.Front handlebars install with hex keys. Honestly not sure how anybody could have problems with this. It’s four bolts. Secure them, and you’re good. But man, some reviewers couldn’t figure this out.Install the seat with another hex socket.Put on the reflectors, hook up the brake, fill the tires with air, and you’re riding.Btw, the factory purposefully ships tires with less air than you’ll need for your benefit. Any tire sitting for an extended period will last longer if not fully inflated.Hooking up the brake is a bit of a pain in the A, as you won’t have enough slack in the front to properly attach the cable unless you briefly disconnect the rear brakes. Once you pull the cable through in the front to attach, reattach the rear. Took me a minute to figure this out.The front break setup is such that you can spin the handlebars around to 1) look cool, and 2) not have the brake line get wound around the front of the bike.The bike is good, solid and worth the money. Assembly, with any mechanical skill (even entry level mechanical skill) will take 20 minutes.Also, warning: you’re buying a $200 bike. It will last like a $200 bike. Many people on here complain about the quality. This isn’t a $1000 bike. Don’t pretend it is.     Good Bike, Bad Assembly Manual

    < Overall >So first off, this is a decent bike. Having twin boys this has all the cool features that they didn’t even know they looking for (that’s because these were features I was looking for at their age); free wheel, spinny handlebars, foot pegs, and a cool color scheme. I’ve read some reviews of this bike on other, bike-oriented sites that pick apart certain mechanical aspects of this bike and I must say people sure seem to expect a lot for this price point. From my perspective–and having grown up with a Huffy–this is about the nicest bike I could imagine having as a kid.< Assembly >Having twin boys meant that I got to experience assembly twice. Which is the reason I deducted a star from the bike, the assembly manual is generic and meant to cover several versions of these bikes. As such it does every version of the bike a disservice by not actually explaining things very well or at all in the case of the brake cable installation for the L20.There isn’t a lot to the assembly. The main frame and all the components are already installed. You just have to put on the front wheel, mount the handlebars to the stem, install the seat, pedals, foot pegs (if you even want them), and finally attach the brake cable to the brake lever. Having a metric socket set and Allen key set are essential.< ASSEMBLY NOTE: Attaching the Brake Cable >I’ve seen more than a few reviews here decrying the assembly of the brake cable with folks going so far as to return the bike, buy additional parts, or dump it off at the bike shop. Let me say I understand your struggle.However, I did figure out how to install the cable without needing to go that route and it was actually pretty easy. The cable, as it turns out, is the right length, but I found it necessary to disassemble the brake lever and remove it in order to make it work. I takes the 4mm allen key to remove the screw. The lever components include two plastic bushings on either side of the lever and a spring. Pay careful attention to how these parts come out, because reassembly is the same.Once the lever is off and the brake cable is fed through the lever mount, you can line up the cable and the barrel in the hole on the lever and rotate it into place. Now you’ll actually have enough leverage to easily re-seat the lever arm although it will require a modicum of coordination to make sure all the parts stay on the arm until you can get them back into the handle-bar mount.I don’t know if I explained that well, I’m not even sure if that was the easiest way to do this, but it worked reliably for me.< FINAL NOTE: Test! >Once everything is assembled, test the bike. I cannot stress this enough. Don’t assume that because it’s all been assembled it’s ready to go. The manual itself makes a big point of this as well.

    I thought produçts of this size would have been put completely together to be sure that everything would work properly, meaning that the plastic brackets aren’t a great idea, saves you money but takes away from quality, plus the rear pegs had no threads so can’t be used, I would have given 5 stars but because of some of the parts quality was a let down, overall tho my son loves the bike and he’s able to get around much quicker now,, if this is read by support or owners or at least someone who can get the word to the right ppl,, all products might need put together ahead of time and then taken apart and boxed, that way you will be able to fix the issues of pieces that are sub par and pieces that won’t work at all,, he is able to use the front pegs if needed,, overall he loves the bike and is very happy, it would have been 10 stars if possible to rate it that, and if the little pieces on the bike that should have been better quality like back when they first came out, paying higher prices sucks, but as long as all the parts are of good quality, plastic is very easy to strip and break, just saying it would be a good idea to think about replacing it all, I also had a mongoose as a child, love the goose and so does my son, thank you for a great bike

    Great Quality for the price!

    Let me be up front, I paid $179 for this bike. It is the gray L60. I just looked again and the bike is now listed for almost $350. I’m not sure I would pay that for this bike. Not because it’s not worth that, but because I would probably buy a higher end brand for the same price. But, that’s just me.I bought this for my son on his 9th birthday. He is very tall for his age at a little over 5 feet. According to the specs, he would be on the bottom end of the height range for this bike and it fits him perfectly. I am 6’ 2”, 250 pounds and I wouldn’t hesitate to buy this bike for myself based on the dimensions. The handlebars are a really nice height for me to ride.I could not find out what the exact material the frame is, but it is very light. I was hoping to get him a Chromoly frame, and I would say that this would fit in that weight range. Everything is very stout and tight. I would not personally hesitate to take this bike to the park and jump it… Which I did. The crank did not flex at all, and I really love how fat the tires are. All around, I am impressed with the bike. The paint job had a nice detail in it near the welds to mimic a heat blemish, which is a throwback to the old days, when chrome bikes were welded and the heat would blemish the chrome and turn it a rainbow color.The only Cons that I really found with the bike was under the fork where the neck stem passes through the fork and is welded in place, there was a really bad cut and weld. There are also a hint of rust on a few parts of the bike. I’m assuming from being shipped overseas from China. The metal Mongoose decal for the front of the head stem was a stick on thing. It may be that kids these days want a clean look and they did that as an option.Other than those things, I can’t find anything else mechanically or geometrically wrong with the bike. To be clear, this is not a Walmart licensed product. This is a mongoose bike produced by mongoose or the company that owns mongoose.p.s. it wouldn’t be a bad idea to make sure that the neck, crank and wheel hubs are all at the correct tightness. They feel a little tight out of the box. This is super easy to do yourself, but if you’re unsure, just take it to a bike shop.

    Yes! Mongoose is back to the good stuff!!!

    Just get one. This is Mongoose like in the 80’s and early 90’s. Not the junk crap that Walmart and other department stores still sell. Avoid those like the plague! But then, that’s apparent to any real BMX rider. Those are all flash for what little you pay and no real quality. If you already have one of those, strip it down to the bare frame and only the frame and build everything else up from scratch. That’s those bikes only hope.This on the other hand is fine the way it comes. Ok, may have to make a few tweaks and whatnot along the way, but that’s to be expected of even the best BMX bikes. It’s part of riding and making it your own. I do wish they’d have given it at least a somewhat taller seat post, and I’m also not crazy about how the seat is permanently attached to the seat post as well. Normal seat and seat post setup is, if the seat wears out or isn’t to your liking, you can just stick a new seat on the seat post. Here, you have to replace both. Was expecting something like a pivoting seat post or perhaps the old bolt down kind. On the other hand, the seat that’s here, by BMX standards, is plenty acceptable until I upgrade. I got the L60 and I’m not sure it mentions it in the details, but it appears as though it’s sporting a rear wheel that’s sealed while the front wheel is not sealed. But the L60 is totally the midrange offering of the whole Legion lineup. So it’s expected that a few things are somewhat average, besides, the rear wheel is where you want and need a better quality one at, uh, if you’re going to cut corners that is. Also, contrary to what I’m seeing in other reviews here, the brakes do work surprisingly well. More than adequate. The bike arrived perfectly and overall inspection found one very minor blemish. Top tube on left side has like a weird smudge in the paint job that then glossed over for it’s final painting. I tried Goo Gone thinking it might have just been grease, it’s kind of a blackish color against green giving that effect sorta, but after a good rubbing it remains unchanged, so I can tell it’s permanently on there. Both very minor and totally cosmetic, a classic error no doubt the result of being mass produced. Everything else is brilliant here plus I caught a sweet sale on mine and got it for only $146.87 + tax. Arrived quickly, packaged well, everything is in perfect condition, so yeah, I’ll excuse one little minor smudge. Thank you Mongoose!!!!

    Beginners Bike

    Not bad for a child’s first bike. They gave me the wrong reflectors (too small) and the frame is “somewhat” fully painted and the black Mongoose emblem on the front frame keeps falling off. It’s a self-adhesive emblem.Not the same Mongoose bike quality that I remember from the 90’s ….

    I got really drunk and tried to order an icicle. I was surprised when I received it and it was far more useful than a frozen water spike. It also hasn’t melted yet, which is nice.

    YOU NEED TO BE A BIT TOOL SAVVY

    Not a bad bike my son truly enjoys it. Quite sturdy and I can see the bike handle well and looks pretty durable. As far as assembly I’ve worked with tools before so it’s low level know how when it comes to assembling this bicycle. I did notice some people having issues with the rear pegs. These pegs require you to remove the bolts from the rear tire and add bolts after placing the pegs. I’m sure if you search videos on how to install it properly you will see how easy it can be. I suggest searching a video since the instruction manual can be a bit tricky.

    Had to replace the front inner tube after the first night of riding, but once i put slime in the tubes it has been smooth riding. Also, the brake kind of sucks, but mostly you ride BMX without brakes so that’s alright

    Great for a boy or a girl

    This might not be the same quality as Mongoose BMX bikes from the 90’s but very nice color and well made. My daughter loves it. I would suggest getting a gel seat or a more comfortable cushioned seat especially for a girl rider.

    Good bike, horrible instructions

    The bike in overall built well. Looks good, kid likes it. However, the instructions are for several different models making them useless. Foreign companies should hire English primary speakers to write their manuals. They should also make manuals specific to each model.

    Great quality bike and light weight

    This Legion L20 is the third Mongoose BMX bike I’ve purchased over the last year, and I’ve been very happy with all three (Legion LSX, Title Pro, and L20).Assembly was very easy on all three bikes; just need to attach the front wheel, handle bars, and pedals. Took only about 15 mins. You just need to pay attention to the direction of the forks and remember the left pedal will be left-hand threaded. The forks and pedals have stickers denoting front/rear, left/right.Besides adjusting for height and putting air in the tires, there really wasn’t any need for fine adjustments (chain tension, brakes, misc. nuts, etc.), as these things are being adjusted correctly from the factory (nice surprise).After reading the negative reviews on this bike and the others mentioned, it seems many of them are related to incorrect user assembly. If you put the forks on backwards or don’t put air in the tire, you’re going to have problems.The Legion L20 is reasonably light at roughly 25 lbs., easy to ride, and looks great. Note, however, that this is a freestyle bike, and probably not the best choice if you’re just looking for a neighborhood cruiser. The crank bracket sits about 1″ higher than on a race type BMX bike, making the apex pedal feel too high when in a sitting position. This may not bother some people. If it does, you could buy shorter cranks, but with the money you’d spend, it would be more logical to just go with a race style bike with the lower bracket (and larger front sprocket). The Title series with a lengthened seat post makes for a great lightweight cruiser.Not much to complain about on this bike. Excellent quality for the money. If you’re looking for a reasonably priced freestyle bike with good quality, at $156, this is a great choice.

    Great Price Great Bike

    Almost didn’t buy for my 11 yr. old grandson because of comments and reviews. The price was $206 and it took an 11 yr old 30 minutes to put together. He is a tall boy about 5’2 and it is fine for his height. The seat is also fine and comfortable he says. Brake line was already connected. Not sure what people expect for price. Super bike for kids. Only had short time so can’t comment on how it will hold up. Also seat adjusts up and does not slant like I read in reviews. Worth the money.

    Better quality but heavier than other bikes for $220

    Better quality than other bikes for similar prices. It’s also heavier than other bikes in the price range. Bought for my 6 year old and it’s a little heavy for him but will last longer than the others. Probably don’t need such a sturdy bike at his age and weight but I like the quality better than the others.

    Customer service???

    **UPDATE: I received a call from customer support and after providing some bike information, they said they would ship out new tubes. Should be here in 3-6 days.Bike arrived quickly and undamaged. However, came with inner-tubes that had holes. Both tubes leaked. The rear tube came out while my son was riding and wrapped around the wheel. Luckily he did not get hurt. No big deal, just call mongoose customer support. Wait on hold for 30 minutes to talk to someone until their automated system tells you the operators are busy and to call again later, then hangs up. Call again later, wait another 10 minutes, automated system kicks you off again. Really hope to get a call back asap. Will update if I ever get help from them.

    Great Kid’s BMX bike

    My kids had a friend that convinced them to try out the local BMX park… it seemed like a great idea until I needed to purchase a BMX bike for them. After finding out that nearly every option for BMX bike was either sold out or out of stock with no back order this was nearly the only one I could order. The assembly was pretty much as you would expect with a couple things that were ‘marginal’ in their description (installation of the safety reflectors didn’t exist). After the usual choice words during assembly the kids tried it out. They love it. It’s a great bike for the money. For me I needed one they could try out BMX style with that didn’t break the bank. if that is what you are looking for this won’t disappoint. I’m sure there are nicer ones out there that cost more but this is a great balance of quality and price.

    Short brake line!

    Pros: Nice and sturdy once assembled. Very sharp looking too. Drives smooth.Cons: the brake line is too short. We were putting this together for Christmas and didn’t know what we were going to do. HERE’S THE TRICK: Assemble break line into handle bar assembly BEFORE attaching to bike. You’ll have to yank on it HARD to get it to fit. Took my husbands strength to get it in. Once we FINALLY got the break line into the handle, all was good! But it was a very frustrating 1.5hrs trying to figure it out.
